Healthy Families Fairfax
Reston Interfaith, with Fairfax County and two other agencies in Northern Virginia, participates in Healthy Families Fairfax. This collaboration is part of Healthy Families America, a nationally-accredited program to prevent child abuse and neglect. Trained family support workers conduct regular home visits to provide parent education and family support to first-time and at-risk parents from before their babies are born to their children’s fifth birthday. Family support workers help the families develop goals, screen children for developmental delays, seek support services, and assess the home environment for potential risks.

"I enrolled in the Healthy Families Program when I was pregnant with my son a few years ago. I have learned a lot about dealing with child care issues and child development. My son is developing well and he’s very active and cooperative, and looked forward to starting kindergarten. Over the years, I have overcome many obstacles, and I am adamant about reaching my goals. I try to be a positive role model for my son. I have reached two of my goals: I obtained my GED, and now work in a bank as a teller. My next goal is to become manager of the bank."Carmen, Participant in Healthy Families Fairfax
